Forthcoming Collection on Nature-based Solutions, led by PLOS Climate

In the context of intensifying climate change impacts, there is fast-growing interest in the potential of nature-based solutions for mitigation and adaptation. Interdisciplinary research is essential to build a robust evidence base for decision-makers to maximise the resilience of systems, infrastructure and societies.

A new Collection, led by PLOS Climate but involving other PLOS journals, will bring together original research articles (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses), narrative reviews, essays and opinion pieces addressing key aspects of nature-based solutions across a range of geographical contexts. Reflecting the highly interdisciplinary scope of PLOS Climate and our sister journals, the Collection will feature contributions with perspectives from across a range of scientific fields and methodological approaches.

We will aim in particular for the Collection to cover the following aspects:

  • Measuring outcomes and effectiveness
  • Co-benefits and trade-offs
  • New frameworks, tools and methods
  • Comparative analyses
  • Policy dimensions

All submissions will be due by 30 November 2026 and will be subject to our standard editorial policies and workflow. We aim to publish the Collection in the first half of 2027. More details will be made available to invited contributors.
