PLOS Climate: call for submissions of policy-relevant energy research

The Energy section of PLOS Climate covers a wide range of topics ranging including the climate resilience of energy systems, the Energy-Health-Climate nexus, trade-offs between energy, ecology and climate, and social, macroeconomic and governance questions (see more here). Members of the editorial team leading the section include Martin Patel (University of Geneva, Switzerland), Denia Kolokotsa (Technical University of Crete, Greece), Joanna Lewis (Georgetown University, USA), João Pedro Gouveia (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal), and Will Usher (KTH, Sweden).
In 2025, our Energy editors are calling for submissions of energy-related papers which are policy-relevant and focused on implementation in the near term. Submissions from all global regions are encouraged. Policy-relevant topics are typically characterized by multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary approaches, either involving collaboration with decision-makers or including their perspectives. Policy measures implemented at the national level are of particular interest, including those aimed at both mitigation and adaption. Apart from success stories, analyses of failures are also relevant and encouraged as submissions.
Submissions should engage with Open Science practices, including data and code sharing, in order to facilitate capacity-building, reproduction of similar studies in other contexts, and harmonized comparison across countries and case studies.
Possible topics include- but are not limited to- decarbonization of residential heating, energy poverty mitigation, renewable energy integration, health impacts/benefits of advanced energy systems and energy policy, as well as climate resilience of energy systems.
We encourage submissions of original Research Articles through PLOS Climate‘s Editorial Manager portal. We also welcome proposals for submissions of Reviews, Opinions and Essays, which should be addressed to Executive Editor Dr Jamie Males.
Publication fees for Research Articles are automatically waived for corresponding authors whose primary affiliation is to an institution in a Group A or B Research4Life country, or whose institution has a partnership with PLOS. There are no publication fees for Reviews, Opinions or Essays.
